Music Expression Therapy

The process of learning and playing music reflects our journey through life. Here, all doubts, joys, struggles, desires and growth can be witnessed, experienced and processed.

With over 30 years experience in this field, I have developed a way to facilitate change and growth through the learning and performance of music.

Whether you are already a professional, practicing musician, or a total beginner, who has never learned music, we can work together to fine-tune your music and your life.

It does not matter which instrument you wish to play. This work will support you in your process of learning and accomplishment, while addressing the life issues that surface.

If you are a person who would like to learn music, voice or piano on the deepest levels, Music Expression Therapy will give you the embodied experience of music. This includes the practicalities of learning, theory and practice, as well as tone, expression and healing through the lived experience of playing music.

HEAR YOUR MUSIC PLAY

In this 4-week, one-on-one process you will take a deep dive into your creativity.  Discover what blocks it and learn how you can be free to create without limits.  The testament of this process will be a musical recording, which finalises the work.

Whether you are an experienced, professional musician or an absolute novice, you will be skillfully guided through your creative mind, resulting in a piece of music you have only dreamed you could express, but never been able to produce.

In this Process you will learn how to free yourself from your Inner Critic that stops you from expressing the “gold” of your true Self.  Of course, all lessons learned in this space can be applied to your day-to-day life too!

DISCOVER YOUR CREATIVE FORCE

Why do we encourage children to play, sing, dance, draw, paint and write, yet grow into adults who actively shun these activities? Most likely, you were taught to be responsible and not to waste your time playing. You were told to “shut up”, or worse, that your voice was ugly when you sang. Or you were made to feel embarrassed when you moved to music. Perhaps your drawing and painting were unappreciated, not encouraged or criticised, and even by the time you got to school, your imagined stories were unwelcome and there was no time for anyone to listen to them.

Your creative force cannot be ignored because each of us embodies the same creative force that created us in the first place! When you are back in touch with your creative force and are able to experience it in action, you can start to live the life of your choosing.

I am offering a 4-week, one-on-one process that will take a deep dive into your creativity. Discover what blocks it and learn how you can be free to create without limits. The testament of this process will be the creation of a work of your choosing.

FAQ’s:

How long are the sessions?

The first three sessions last for one hour.  The final session will be up to 3 hours duration, as this is when we will be producing your music.

Will I own my song?

Yes, I will help you to produce it and you will have an audio file sent to you.

What experience and qualifications do you have?

I was a professional musician for over 25 years, starting my first band at 16 years of age and performing professionally with subsequent bands in Australia and Europe, as well as recording seven albums of various genres (Jazz, Brasilian, Pop and EDM).  These were in the days of recording studios!  I wrote, produced and performed vocals and successfully secured licensing deals in Japan and the UK.  My musical training is both from a classical and jazz background. I taught piano and voice for 20 years and have professional qualifications in Adult Education, Training and Assessment, Counselling, Coaching and Voice Dialogue.  I apply and integrate all these skills to work on a client-led basis to achieve the outcome of producing your music.

Do I have to pay up-front?

Yes. This process requires commitment and paying for your sessions up-front ensures you will complete the process.

What if I can’t make it to one of my sessions?

You can reschedule your sessions, however, a 24-hour cancellation policy is in place.  If there are extenuating circumstances, these will always be considered.
